EGGA Supports the European Convoy for Industrial Competitiveness

EGGA-Galvanizing Europe had supported the “European Convoy for Industrial Competitiveness” in Brussels on 7 September 2026. The demonstration was coordinated with Eurometal. Our Director-Public Affairs, Valerio Mazzone supported our colleagues from Eurometal to bring one clear message: Keep the steel value chain in Europe!

Current EU measures may protect the upstream steel industry, but they leave downstream parts of the steel product value chain very exposed to unfair competition, including for vital corrosion protection services such as batch galvanizing.

The risk is that protecting only the upstream part of the value chain simply shifts the competitive pressure onto final galvanized steel products, such as solar PV structures, that are increasingly imported into the EU, putting European downstream industry, investment and jobs at risk. We want fair competition, not protectionism.

With key policy decisions around steel trade defence measures and the extension of CBAM to be decided in the coming months, this events had one aim – that these decisions must keep steel product manufacturing in Europe
