The EGGA - Galvanizing Europe Assembly in Dublin was a timely reminder of the strength of our industry’s collaborative approach to the challenges that we face and the benefits of working together. Our 200+ delegates from across our member associations, included galvanizing company representatives, association staff and suppliers to the industry.

We learned a lot and discussed plenty:

• The landscape for a competitive steel product manufacturing sector is complex. We must continue to navigate complex issues such as CBAM, safeguard measures and low carbon steel initiatives that can have a big impact on our customers. Thanks Neil Willoughby for setting out the picture in Brussels
• Technology foresight is crucial – to ensure that galvanizing can also provide sustainable and circular solutions for innovative steel products with higher strength steels and emerging products using additive manufacturing routes
• Renewable energy continues to rely on our solutions for optimal durability – thanks Birit Buhr (European Energy) for your insights on the solar sector
• Implementation of the new Construction Products Regulation will bring new requirements for providing relevant environmental data to our customers. Vahtikari Katja (Eurofins) educated us on the validation role of the Notified Bodies.

Panel debates on communicating the benefits of galvanizing in circular design and our industry’s progress in decarbonisation gave valuable insights. New developments in zinc recycling of our by-products showcased the circularity of zinc.
