The Galvanizing Industry delivers long-term value for public assets
Galvanized steel plays a critical role in Europe’s infrastructure and industrial resilience. It is widely used in highway guardrails, railway steelwork, bridges, overpasses, ports and quay walls, as well as in essential net-zero technologies such as electricity transmission towers and solar mounting structures.
With a service life that can exceed 100 years, galvanized steel offers durability, low maintenance costs, and long-term value for public investment.
Batch galvanizing is typically carried out locally, in close proximity to steel fabricators. This model supports regional industrial ecosystems, sustains skilled employment across Member States, and reduces transport-related emissions. At the same time, our industry depends on a strong and competitive EU steel product manufacturing and fabrication sector, which is increasingly under pressure from rising imports of manufactured steel products.
Public procurement as a driver for competitiveness, resilience and sustainability
Public procurement represents a powerful lever to reinforce Europe’s industrial capacity, resilience, and sustainability objectives. EGGA is closely following the revision of the Public Procurement Directives. We call on EU institutions and Member States to ensure that the future revision of the Public Procurement Directives:
